This cartoon was actually inspired by a girlfriend's Patterdale terrier, he just happened to look like Artie!
What canine doesn't need a crown?
A beautiful commission for a lovely lady who lost her partner, but found strength through her bond with her dog.
A lovely if poignant commission of an older dog who was poorly and therefore rather obsessed with water. Dear old boy.

My studio companions

I have always had a studio companion, my first was my Shih Tzu Raffles, who lived until he was nearly 14, he loved to sleep on my old sofa in my studio or go out for long walks. Next, I had the tiny but mighty Ratty, a Shih Tzu, Maltese, Lhasa Apso, Poodle cross, all 4 kilogrammes of her! She lived an extraordinary life and with her David Bowie eyes inspired me to create many a cartoon of her. She also lived until she was nearly 14. Now I have a Norfolk Terrier, Artie, he is 8 now and very used to my life of either stillness and sleeping in my studio or out for long walks in the countryside.

After slipping on ice one Winter, I had to work with my injured leg up. Artie absolutely loved this time as it entailed maximum cuddles!
